UMA EXPERIÊNCIA DE EXTENSÃO UNIVERSITÁRIA.

Abstract

The article discusses the educational nature of Social Work and the use of cinema as a pedagogical tool to promote a critical reinterpretation of social reality. The initiative is part of the Social Cine extension project, linked to the Social Work program at UNIOESTE, Francisco Beltrão campus (PR). The project organizes film screenings followed by dialogical workshops aimed at high school students from public schools located in peripheral and socially vulnerable areas. It is based on the premise that cinema can awaken a new political consciousness and contribute to social transformation. The research methodology combined bibliographic review, fieldwork, and analysis grounded in critical social theory. The findings indicate that young people have the potential to develop a critical and engaged view of reality, especially when involved in spaces of dialogue and reflection. In this context, cinema brings students closer to the university and engages them in discussions about citizenship and rights. The project also supports the social function of higher education by integrating extension, teaching, and research. Furthermore, it reinforces the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. Thus, Social Work takes on a transformative pedagogical role, contributing to the construction of a new critical and participatory culture.
