Abstract

The role of rural communities in the world plays an important and visible role, considering the integration of several factors that contribute to development. This article reviewed bibliographically social trust as a determinant factor for the development of the rural sector and its interaction with different organizations, following the methodology of (Cronin, Ryan & Coughlan, 2008), using published scientific articles and focused on exposing how social trust influences productive behavior and rural development. As a result of this exercise, three major categories associated with social trust were identified: agroindustrial development, rural development and social capital. Therefore, it is concluded that the growth and industrialization of the rural sector, in addition to requiring new technologies, must bring about a change of mentality on the part of the various actors in which social trust becomes a determining factor in the development of productive behavior in the communities.
