Abstract

The theme “The influence of emotional intelligence in professional performance of the Executive Secretary” became focus of study because of the need of the professional to suit the changes from the deepening of globalization that affects contemporary organizations, requiring skill and speed in decision – making. This paper aims to investigate how the Executive Secretary professional can manage his Emotional Intelligence to contribute to the quality of their performance in organization. Therefore, a bibliographic survey and a field research was made, having as theoretical propositions of Daniel Goleman on Emotional Intelligence. The research was made at the Federal University of Ceará, using as instrument to collect data a semi-structured questionnaire directed to Executive Secretaries who work in this institution. It was study that, reason and emotion walk together, for more rational it seems, a decision is also moved by the emotional. After the analysis and interpretation of data, it was notice how important it is to be a professional emotionally intelligent, considering that he knows how to use emotions to his advantage.
