Abstract

The study aimed to identify necessary competences to the Executive Secretary according to the point of view of Federal University of Amapá’s academics and to analyze their respective attributes in relation to National Curriculum Guidelines for Graduation Courses in the area and Pedagogical Plan of Course. It was used the Evocation of Words Test, asking to the subjects of research to name words related with competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) for action of the professional on job market. The nuclear attributes that have been identified were: mother language and foreign language; Informatics and new technologies; archives; administration, economics; “news”; leadership, teamwork, solidarity/partnership and agility, pro-activity, flexibility, ethics, creativity, self-development and responsibility. Using the assumption that declared attributes indicate vectors of investment in training/professional development, the results indicate a need of studies to: a) identify/overcome gaps in the training of executive secretaries; b) establish strategies to make more explicit what competences have to be developed in the course; and c) identify competences perceived as necessary by the professionals that are already on the market and demanding companies.
