Abstract

The present study aimed at making it evident the English language in the executive secretariat courses, highlighting the potential of that language as a path to the success of the secretary professional. Some readings were routed to the study object proposed, besides a survey was made in curricular English language discipline in several different institutions of higher education in executive secretariat course. This study is descriptive and quantity-qualitative. A structured questionnaire was used as data collect and the content analysis with focus on the categorization technique was the way to treat data, according to Minayo. The study revealed that the English for Specific Purposes is a great ally for students, because this approach has as a primordial characteristic to attend the specific role of the learner. Through the questionnaire applied to the students, 50% said that after the two English language modules offered in a Technology Secretariat course, in an Public Institution Federal of Piauí, their knowledge in English did not improve. The another sector researched, in other words, 50% of them, said that their knowledge improved, because the pronunciation improved in some words, they get translate new sentences and the vocabulary expanded, increasing the interest to learn English language. Thus, we highlight the big importance of English language in executive secretariat courses, with the education institutions focus on teaching this language in compulsory subjects, to be an important allied for the secretary professional.
