CASH FLOW : ANALYSIS OF COPEL STATEMENTS

Abstract

This study has the objective to analyze the economic and financial performance of a company in the energy sector, for this we used the cash flow statements. The company analyzed was COPEL - Companhia Paranaense de Energia. The research is descriptive and exploratory. As for the procedures, it's a case study of a company in the energy sector and we used data disclosed in BM & FBOVESPA for the calculation of financial indicators. The critical situation of the 2010 blackouts, 2011 and 2012 added to the problems and risks in power generation in 2013, affected directly the financial statements and indexes Copel. As the analysis of the indicators is perceived that Copel was strongly affected in 2011 due to the reduction in liquidity ratios and solvency and also for the reduction of return on sales and profit. Regarding interest coverage, the index had a continuous reduction in the 2010-2013 period, however, has continued to be positive, which shows that the company is able to meet its obligations, even with low rates in generation Cashier. The debt coverage ratio of ≥ 0.40, indicate that this is a healthy company. The investments made in 2010 and 2013 were financed with own funds. However, the data showed that in 2011, the company needed of debt aid.
