Abstract

This study aims to look at memory in Childhood (1981), by Graciliano Ramos, as an elaborated and, therefore, fictional recreation, with a view to inferring the representation of the child in the process of creation and education in the family, school and social spheres. This is in line with the idea that the distance between what is lived and what is narrated is what allows memories to merge in the gaps of time. Thus, the objective is to think of memories as spaces for re-signification of the remnants of trauma and resentment, evidencing a conception of childhood for the time. To this end, the considerations of Ansart (2011), Assmann (2011), Faria (1976), Garbúglio (1987), Halbwachs (1990, 2006), Remédios (1997), Ribeiro (2008), Sirota (2001), Soares (2002), among others.
