Abstract

The aim of this article is to evaluate the relationship between the collection of municipal waste and the occurrence of flooding. For this, a correlation analysis was performed, applied in the municipalities belonging to the Central Urban Center of Curitiba (NUC) between 2007 and 2018. The results indicate that urbanization rates in municipalities with high flooding are above 30%. Also, the municipalities with the highest occurrences (Araucaria, Curitiba and São José dos Pinhais) belong to the group of the largest investments in terms of waste. Therefore, it is inferable that the problem in these cases lies in the insufficiency of local drainage systems. Based on this, the importance of public managers in the implementation of control and inspection measures regarding the correct disposal of waste is highlighted.
