Percepção dos Riscos de Desastres Naturais em Curitiba: O Caso da Vila Torres

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to analyze the perception of the risks of disasters triggered by extreme meteorological events in the Vila Torres community in Curitiba, Brazil.

 

The region is frequently affected by floods and flooding. The method involved carrying out structured interviews using questionnaires on the research topic with more than 300 individuals from each location. Sociodemographic characteristics, risk perception and communication were analyzed. The results showed that almost half of those interviewed are or have already been affected by floods. A greater perception of risk was observed on the part of women, the elderly and those directly affected by the phenomenon, as well as a relationship between the means of communicating alerts and the perceived discomfort, education level and age group. It was concluded that the issue of mitigation, preparation and prevention of disaster risks in the city of Curitiba needs improvement, especially with a focus on the regions most vulnerable to flooding and the female public.
