Abstract

Abstract: This article will address issues related to basic sanitation in riverine communities located in southern Amapá, as the communities of Laranjal do Jari face notable vulnerability to unsanitary conditions during river floods. The main objective is to provide insights for the formulation of public policies that promote inclusion and improvement of basic sanitation conditions. Aspects such as access to clean water, solid waste collection and management, and health education will be considered. The research obtained 32 questionnaires applied to residents of the Santo Antônio da Cachoeira and Quilombo de São José communities in Laranjal do Jari, where 62.5% of community residents reported that floods are a problem for staying in the community. One of the greatest challenges during the rising of the Jari River's water level is maintaining water quality for basic needs. The lack of solid waste management in the Santo Antônio and Quilombo de São José communities leads to improper disposal of "garbage".
