Abstract

The present article addresses the impacts of the El Niño phenomenon on extractive activities aimed at Brazil nut production in the communities of São José and Santo Antônio da Cachoeira in the year 2023. A field research was conducted with the aim of collecting data through interviews. Thus, with the data collected by the students in the field, graphs were generated on the Google Forms platform in order to determine the quantity of these impacts and better understand how the community residents acted amid this phenomenon. As a result, there was low production, and Brazil nut species became more susceptible to pest attacks, as well as difficulties in river transportation due to drought. Additionally, it was reported by the interviewees that there was a greater disruption in Brazil nut production from the years 2022 to 2023, consequently affecting them economically, socially, and environmentally.

Keywords: low production; drought; impacts on Brazil nut forests; economy.
