Abstract
During the colonial era in Mexico, the members of indigenous villages had to adapt themselves to a new identity through the imposition of names of persons of Hispanic origin. Within these new names there were some of greater circulation among these individuals. The reasons for the nominal preferences could be remarkably diverse, however, for this work, the names that are related between the baptized, their parents and their godparents are decribed, as possible nominal inheritance.
Keywords: Jilotepec, México, Century XVII, baptisms, godparents.
