Abstract

The discourses that permeate the African diaspora has been constructed from different perspectives, meeting and not meeting each other, but having the conquest of freedom as a common point. In this sense, the present work aims to elucidate the relations between Aimé Césaire and other thinkers of the African diaspora,as well as to reflect on the conjectures proposed by this poet regarding “Negritude”, identity, colonialism and freedom. For the structuring of this text, an approximation was established between the work Discurso sobre a Negritudeand Uma Tempestade, both published by Césaire, in order to analyze some assumptions that underlie this author's discourse, the idealization and strengthening of the "Negritude" movement. By revisiting some authors that marked this movement, among them Aimé Césaire, Léopold SédarSenghor, Léon-Gontran Damas, we will seek to elucidate the historical context in which the foundations of “Negritude”were established and, through the approximation between history and literature, to reflect on the reverberation of such a movement in colonialist and racist practices.
