In 2003, Editora Nova Fronteira launches João Guimarães Rosa: Correspondência com seu tradutor alemão Curt Meyer-Clason (1958 – 1967), organized by Maria Aparecida Bussolotti and translated by Erlon José Paschoal. This book reveals several notes about the processes of translation and (re)creation of Grande Sertão: Veredas and “the closest friendship” (PASCHOAL, 2008, p. 186) that emerged between Meyer-Clason and Rosa. Five years after translating the correspondence between the two aforementioned writers, Erlon José Paschoal encourages the ascendancy of the debate on the issue of coexistence and proximity between author and translator as well as its consequences for the translation of a literary work in Uma recriação fiel: Diálogos entre o autor e seu tradutor (2008). Based on this, we will try to expose, in the light of Paschoal's notes and other scholars on the subject, how the relationship between author/translator was constituted in an oppositional way over the centuries under different aspects in translation theories. Next, we will try to point to the core of this opposition in translation studies. Finally, we will demonstrate that, in a complementary relationship, the rapprochement between both, author and translator, is not only prolific for literary (re)creation and for discussions about translation studies, but also makes it possible to formulate a reflection about a “reciprocal translation” (OTTONI, 2005, p. 16). To do so, we will take as a basis Paschoal's proposal of “symbiosis” (PASCHOAL, 2008, p. 187) to propose the “duplicity of authorship” (LAGES, 2002, p. 82) of a literary translation.
