NEOCLACISSISM AS POETIC REGISTER AND NOT AS A CURIOSITY

Abstract

The following article aims to relate, according to Antônio Candidos’s point of view, the historic importance that de arcadism (neoclassicismo) movement as an important turnpoint based on the social and cultural contact between the colony and Europe, which would lead to an self-conscience of the colonist as men and poets in equal value as the settlers. In order to do that we will cross information concerning the definition of classicismo, neoclassicismo and arcadism taken from studies related to historical classification of aesthetics movements on literature. We will try to trace back the orgins of the real influence of our poetry in the 18th century. In addition to these references this essay will aim to show the contextual relations that define the poetic movements, in particular the arcadism, that originated from the French Classicism and how the poetic manifestations from Europe are different from each other. We will take as our basis the principle that states each poetic movement is different on diverse contexts and has diferente consequences on the places they appear. The brazillian branch of the neoclassicismo is the focus of this article. This article will explore the historical role of this movement and its importance on defining the brazillian literature as a system engaged on human and political questions. We will try to demonstrate to what extent the colonial poetry from the neoclassicists postulates certain identity originated from a poetical na aesthetic and not restricted to its historical value as a document as a register from that century, but as something importante for the literary history and as literature.
