Abstract

This work analyzes how the dramatic text Otra Electraby the Mexican writer Edith Ibarra takes up the two classic Greek works called Electra, that of Sophocles and that of Euripides, in a contemporary andcritical text. It is observed how Ibarra approaches the main issues of the Electra myth (the conflicting relationship with her mother, the relationship with her brother, the murder of her mother) in contemporary times. We compare excerpts from the three works to identify which aspects of the Greek myth echo in Ibarra's work, as well as which new elements are added to the Mexican version. As a theoretical basis, we used the studies of Brandão, García Gual and Grimal on mythology and literature, as well as the studies of Jung and Hendrika Halberstadt-Freud on psychoanalysis.
