Abstract

Writing, as a political act, takes on a powerful role as a symbol of denunciation, resistance, and existence. In this context, the creations of Black women have played a crucial role in the evolution of Brazilian Literature, giving it new and relevant contours. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the short stories Metamorfose, by Geni Guimarães and Negrinha! Negrinha! Negrinha!, by Ana Maria Gonçalves, highlighting the effects of racist discourse on the identity construction of children's protagonists in a school environment. The theoretical framework is formed by theorists such as: Abdias do Nascimento (2016), bell hooks (2019), Chimamanda Adichie (2019), Djamila Ribeiro (2019), Frantz Fanon (2008), Grada Kilomba (2020), Lélia Gonzalez (2020), Lilia Schwarcz (2013), Luisa Lobo (2007), Luiz Silva Cuti (2010), Neuza Santos Souza (1983), Nilma Lino Gomes (2002) and Regina Dalcastagnè (2005; 2019). It is concluded that racism, when crossing these bodies, leads to feelings of self-denial, self-hatred and low self-esteem. Only through a painful process of redefinition and reaffirmation of their identity it becomes possible for these characters fully embrace their Blackness and see themselves as individuals.
