an analysis of the film Neighboring Sounds

Abstract

This article analyzes the film "O Som ao Redor", directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, as a work that transcends cinematic entertainment to become an instrument of social reflection and cultural criticism. Exploring the nuances of the formation of Brazilian society and its contemporary consequences, the film sheds light on the complex dynamics between social classes and urban spaces. In this research, the concept of "skyboxification of urban spaces" is used to name the social segregation and alienation of the dominant elite. This elite, often disconnected from the realities and conflicts of the most marginalized layers of society, is confronted with its own past of exploitation and oppression that is conveniently ignored.
