Abstract

This article proposes an analysis of the intertwining between history and literature, seeking to identify gender issues in the novel Um Mapo Todo Seu, by Ana Maria Machado. Based on Antônio Candido (1985) and contributions from Sandra Pesavento (2006), we investigate how factors external to the work reverberate in artistic creations and contribute to the formation of the literary product. By analyzing the novel by Ana Maria Machado (2015), the study examines the social aspects of a patriarchal culture intertwined in the narrative, based on theorists such as Joan Scott (2019) and Pierre Bourdieu (2012). Bibliographic research, with a qualitative and exploratory approach, seeks to verify the historical elements embedded in the novel to reveal the intersection of social practices of a dominant patriarchal culture present in the work, under the theoretical support

of Linda Hutcheon (1991) and Fredric Jameson (2007). The research results demonstrate how the imaginary acts in the construction of the historical novel and identifies in the characters manifestations of a patriarchal culture, with the figure of Eufrásia Teixeira Leite representing a movement of subversion of this restricting patriarchalism, manifested through male personas that symbolize the impositions of gender dichotomies prevailing at the time where the narrative is developed.
