Abstract

In this article I will argue that Parana' s regional identity and especially the one related to its capital city, was established as from historical narratives which, produced since the nineteenth century, had a tendency to obscure - or even deny - the relevance of slavery and the importance of the presence of Africans and their descendants in the local population. Furthermore, I intend to present possibilities of intervention by means of a production which, inserted in the diffusion of  what today is denominated Public History, will favour the reconstitution of such identity,  rendering it more democratic
