Abstract

This study evaluated the performance of exports of cashew-nuts from Brazil and its main competitors in the international market, from 2007 to 2011, through the indexes of relative position in the market, comparative advantage and constant-market-share advantage. The results indicated that Brazil and its main competitors in the international market lost relative market position, except Ivory Coast, which was the country with the highest revealed comparative advantage; the growth of world trade contributed most to the percentage growth in exports of cashew-nut on the analyzed countries, except for the Ivory Coast where the competitiveness effect surpassed the growth of world trade; and finally the effect on the exports destination was relevant to mainly explain the export growth in Brazil.
