Programa Bolsa Família: characteristics and poverty profile among the beneficiaries in the states of Paraná and Bahia

This article aims to describe the characteristics of the beneficiaries of the “Programa Bolsa Família” in the states of Paraná and Bahia based on data provided by the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger for the year 2014 to check for similarities and differences from a set of socioeconomic indicators. The used units of analysis are the households and people. The characteristics analyzed to people are: age, sex, race, degree of education of the household. Regarding the household characteristics, data on the type of construction were used, type of lighting, garbage collection, means of disposal of sewage and form of distribution of water. Overall, the indicators analyzed, worth mentioning the precariousness in terms of access to sanitation both in Paraná and in Bahia and the problem of low educational level of the household. Although there are similarities among the beneficiaries of both states, the situation of Bahia state is most vulnerable beneficiaries.
