Abstract

The aim of the study is to estimate the importance of Coroinha beach in Itacaré, Bahia, through monetary values, identified by willingness to pay (WTP), expressed by citizens. The contingent environmental valuation method (CVM) was used to capture the willingness to pay of individuals, applying structured interviews. The results show that approximately 71% of the people interviewed are willing to contribute to the revitalization of the beach, propensity positively related with other variables, such as income, number of individuals in family unit, among others, estimated by logit model. The average WTP found was R$ 1,413,211.86 per year, corresponding to the total economic value of Coroinha beach, assigned by population, indicating their preferences by improving environmental quality and the importance of natural resource conservation.
