Abstract

Brazil is the fifth largest cotton producer in the world and this offer aims to meet the demand for fibers mainly of domestic and Asian countries textile industry. The national cotton’s farming trajectory shows that the current productive and qualitative stage of the Brazilian cotton productionhas been achieved due to research and development that adapted seeds to soil and climatic conditions of the producing regions and also due to development of quality germplasm with the technical characteristics desired by the textile industry. The innovation process of genetic improvement will be analysed by the study of main actors of cotton seeds market, your strategies, seeds offer and technical tests of plant variety to the farming business. The diversity of cotton farming trajectories also will be commented, where Embrapa contributes to seeds development and solutions destined to small farmers and toregional development.
