Abstract

This paper takes aim at analyzing the behavior of the labor supply in Brazil. It intends to verify the labor supply profile in Brazil and its regional differences, with the data from the Monthly Employment Survey. The labor supply concentrates in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where men have the largest partaking, although the female employment presents advances in relation to men in the period, with retraction of inequalities, such as income. On the other hand, the qualification has increased more among men who still have a lower level than them.

Our results still indicate that there are significant regional differences in labor supply, for example a higher participation rate and lowest unemployment in the Southern Metropolitan Regions.
