Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between the performance of exports from Paraná and this state´s economic growth during the period from 1990 to 2005. To this end, various performance indicators, such as the Revealed Comparative Advantages (RCA), the degree of openness of the economy, the exports elasticity in relation to the GDP, and the average growth rate of exports, were utilized. As a result, it was verified that Paraná presented revealed comparative advantage in the main products of its exports list, especially in grains. It was also verified that the average growth rate of Paraná´s exports was superior to the national average. The study suggests that the performance of exports played a relevant role in the superior relative growth of the economy of Paraná in the analyzed period.
