Abstract

The infant mortality rate is an important social indicator used to measure the level of life quality in one determined by many factors that change by the time and the local. This work has as its objective to investigate witch are the main determinants socioeconomics of the infant mortality in Brazil between the period of 1997 and 2005. To this objective it has been used the econometric model panel data. AS the results gained has found the necessity of the expansion and the public investments in collective consumption goods in education, health and sanitation in the process of reduction of the infant mortality taxes.
