Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the most common causes of accidents/illnesses in rural workers’ activities. In addition, it was sought to investigate what steps are taken in terms of prevention. Data were collect by interviews with managers (n =2), safety technician (n =1) and occupational physician (n = 1) from two Partnership of Employers in the municipality of Unaí, MG. It was also made the analysis of internal documents of the Organizations about 2005 and 2006. At the end the following conclusions were reached: a) workers suffer from excessive  work physical demand and distortions/ sprains and fractures of the upper limbs (hands, wrists and arms) are the main types of accidents; b) the musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases are those that most affect workers, contributing to these diseases, the posture and repetitive motions realized; c) the preventive measures adopted are the provision of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment), training, guidance and oversight to check their application and d) other health protection measures revolve around orientations about labor forms and rest breaks, since they are not fulfilled because of the payment of system for production.
