Abstract

This article aims to analyze the spatial distribution of the transformation and employment industry, according to the Federal Units of the Northeast, from 1998 through 2008. Methodologically the research is of exploratory type and uses data from the Social Information Annual Report (RAIS) from the Ministry of Work and Employment (MTE). The results indicate significant increase in the number of industries installed/open in the Northeast, from 1998 through 2008, followed by the generation of job posts. On the other hand, in 2008, the industrial businesses and the careers are concentrated in Bahia, Ceará and Pernambuco, with focus for Bahia, since from the fourteen sectors which compose the transformation industry, the Federal Unit of Bahia is in the leadership of the generation of job posts in nine sectors, and possesses the greatest number of industries installed in twelve sectors of this economical activity.
