Abstract

the macroeconomical transformations of the late 20th century promoted configurations significantly elevated in the productive dynamics and in the job market. Taking this into account, this article aims to analyse the economical dynamics and the formal employment in the industry by comparing the Northeast and the States of Ceará and Bahia – 1990-2008. Methodologically it's used a literature review about the dynamics of the industrial job market, in addition to data from the Social Information Annual Report (RAIS) and from the General Database of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED), both from the Ministry of Work and Employment (MTE). The industrial dynamics is similar both in the regional as well as in the state scope. The State of Bahia exhibits a productive structure somewhat differentiated from its region and strikingly different from the one of Ceará. In 2008, it was observed a bigger aproximation between the researched units. It was observed greater concentration of job posts in traditional sectors of the industry, with more than 70% of the workers of the male sex in the Northeast and in Bahia, followed by the high workforce turnover, both regional as well as in the two states under comparison. It was also observed high percentage of workers earning up to 2 Minimum Wages (SM), with higher percentage registered in Ceará (86.2%). Throughout the years, it was also observed improvements in the schooling level of the industrial workforce, and paradoxically, reduction in the salary average earned by the workers.
