Abstract

The last population census in Brazil contains a remarkable data set on population movements, if properly worked, can provide estimates of important aspects of migration flows. The generation of estimates of internal and international migration flows through a combination of direct and indirect techniques, represents a methodological challenge that is being faced by some demographers devoted to migration studies. The main objective of this paper therefore is to provide estimates of international emigration of Brazilians by sex, age and Federal States to the second half of the last decade of last century.
