Abstract

The sustainable development of the Amazon region has been posing a great challenge for a long time. Therefore, the regional energy supply sector has assumed an extremely important role due to its potentiality for raising the income and improving the living conditions of the local residents. Hence, we must seek for a way of being able to exploit its natural resources diversity without degrading the environmental conditions for our own as well as coming generations. We are dealing with a continental-sized region holding a large variety of natural resources and power supply sources. The present study has restricted its discussion into the local pottery and brickworks production complex power supply demands. Hence, our work consisted of gathering information pertaining to economical, environmental and processing technique data available at local companies and institutions. In the pottery sector, as a whole, we are studying the introduction of fast-growing timber species for the production of firewood, as an alternative to those found in the native forest aiming to contribute for its conservation and sustainability.
