Abstract

This study evaluated water quality in the Jari River, covering the communities of São José, Padaria, Samaúma, and the port area of Laranjal do Jari, Amapá, Amazonia, Brazil. Samples were collected at strategic points near these communities, analyzing pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and temperature. Results indicated slightly alkaline waters, low conductivity, good oxygenation, and turbidity within legal limits, suggesting suitable conditions for human consumption (after treatment), fishing, and subsistence farming. A turbidity increase was observed near the urban area, possibly related to human activities. The absence of microbiological analyses limits the sanitary assessment but reinforces the need for continuous monitoring. It is concluded that water management should integrate scientific and traditional knowledge, ensuring community participation in preserving the Jari River and protecting local livelihoods, targeting the SDGs 6 and 11.
