Abstract

The objective of this work was to study the consortium of corn with Brachiaria ruziziensis regarding the morphogenesis of the forage. The field experiment was conducted on November 2012 to April 2013, in an area of UNIOESTE, campus Marechal Cândido Rondon, Paraná State. The experimental design was randomized blocks in 2x3 factorial design, with three replications. The treatments consisted of two spacings (45 and 90 cm), conducted in three types of cultivation (B. ruziziensis; B. ruziziensis with corn in the row; and B. ruziziensis with corn between the row). The morphogenical characteristics evaluated were: rates of leaf appearance, leaf elongation, number of green leaves and leaf life span. The leaf elongation rate of B. ruziziensis cultivated alone was higher in the spacing of 90 cm. Signal grass intercropped with maize constitutes a good alternative to be explored by farmers.
