Abstract

This review aims to perform a survey of the main floral resources available to social, semi-social or solitary bees from the Caatinga biome, focusing on botanical species most commonly found in tree, shrub, sub-shrub, herbaceous, as well as climber species. The floral rewards offered to Brazilian semiarid bees are mainly pollen, nectar, perfumes, nesting sites, resins and oils. The difficulty found for the maintenance of beekeeping activities, due mainly to the harsh environment to which the bees are inserted, can be mitigated through management practices coupled with the diversification of apiculture pasture. Reforestation practices should be carried out in such a way as to maintain a minimum resource availability for the survival of bees even during periods of drought, since there are plant species that offer these resources during the driest periods of the year. This knowledge of the floral resources of the Caatinga is strategic for the maintenance and conservation of apifauna, responsible for the perpetuation of native species through cross-pollination, as well as for the productive increase of the agricultural crops.
