Abstract

This work had as a purpose evaluate the ornamental pepper production using different substrates and fertilization levels, with slow liberation fertilizers and traditional fertilizer, on climate conditions of Ilha Solteira – SP. The experiment was carried out in the Experimental Station of UNESP – Ilha Solteira Campus, in the period of March to May 2004. The seedlings were produced in trays, using commercial substrates. When they presented 4 to 6 leaves the seedlings were transplanted to vases with 1,3 liters capacity. The experimental design adopted was entirely randomized block, with 14 treatments and 3 replications, with 4 plants for each replication. For filling the vases was used 2 substrates: commercial and commercial + composite (2:1); 2 fertilizers: Basacote Plus 6M and traditional fertilizer; and 4 levels: 0, 2, 4 and 8 kg m-3. It was accomplished the analysis of substrates before the crop installation. On fifty sixth day after transplant it was determined plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and number of fruits for each plant of ornamental pepper. The data were evaluated through variance analysis and Tukey´s test with 5% of probability, for averages comparison, and for quantitative factors was obtained regression. It was concluded that the commercial substrate + 68
organic composite, without fertilizer, was enough for production; the fertilizer with slow liberationwas more efficient than the traditional fertilizer in most of the characters evaluated.
