THE ROLE OF THE NURSE PROFESSIONAL IN CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER:
INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Objective: The objective was to analyze the knowledge and performance of nursing professionals with people with ASD. Stimulate discussions regarding the dissemination of this topic among future professionals and nurses, so that they can contribute to the development of strategies to provide care for people with autistic disorder. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature carried out in the Virtual Health Library databases. Inclusion criteria: articles with full texts in Portuguese, English and Spanish, published between 2018 and 2023. Abstracts, articles that were not related to our objective, monographs, theses, integrative review articles, short stories and reports, paid articles were excluded multimedia collections and all duplicate articles in the database. Results: Through descriptor associations, 218 articles were selected. As they did not meet the inclusion criteria of this study, 198 were excluded, resulting in the final sample of 16 articles. Discussion: The nurse presents himself as an extremely important therapeutic agent within this problem. Nursing team professionals are not prepared to work in the care of children with ASD. During their training, the approach to the topic is deficient, making professionals feel insecure and unable to provide care to this child and their family. Final Considerations: This study showed that professionais nurses' assistance to people with ASD demands knowledge for identification and assessments, individual care, in groups, for family/caregivers and, to this end, difficulties are encountered that can be overcome through the inclusion of theme in training and continuing education processes in health.
