Este artigo tem o objetivo de realizar um "exercício de memória" trazendo momentos em que, desde a universidade, Paulo Freire e seus companheiros de equipe procuraram inverter o sentido de "serviço" e de qualquer tipo de trabalho pedagógico "junto ao povo", assim busca recuperar algumas passagens antigas de textos pioneiros de Paulo Freire e sua primeira equipe. As experiências a partir desta passagem de Paulo Freire e sua primeira equipe pelo Serviço de Extensão da Universidade do Recife aparecem pela primeira vez por escrito no número 4 da Revista de Cultura da Universidade do Recife, edição de abril/junho de 1963. Considerando tempo e espaço deste movimento, é válido destacar que o importante na ação cultural era um trabalho de resgate, não de negação das tradições populares. Dessa forma, a ação de Paulo Freire e sua equipe deixa como legado a lição de que o papel do educador “erudito” e “comprometido” consiste em assessorar homens e mulheres das classes populares na tarefa de ajudar uma ação cultural através da educação e, ainda, incentivar e instrumentalizar de modo conscientizador o povo, para que este se reorganize em torno dos elementos originais de sua própria cultura.Downloads
