REPRESENTAÇÕES DE FLORESTAS: A INDÚSTRIA E OS CONFLITOS DE RACIONALIDADES PRESENTES NA REVISTA O PAPEL DURANTE O PERÍODO DE INDUSTRIALIZAÇÃO DO BRASIL (1939-1965)

Esta pesquisa objetiva reconhecer e analisar quais são as representações de florestas, presentes na revista O Papel, publicação editada desde 1939 até a atualidade, e que pretende expressar os interesses da indústria de produção de celulose, papel e produtos correlacionados. Foi analisado o período de 1939 a 1965, marcado pela industrialização do Brasil, iniciada pelas mudanças promovidas pelo primeiro governo do presidente Getúlio Vargas, quando o foco da economia passou de agrário a industrial. O período se encerra nos momentos que antecederam os quase 20 anos de governos civil-militares, marcados como uma época distinta daquelas que a precederam e que a sucederam. Os resultados apontam para a hegemonia da representação de florestas como fontes de recursos e serviços, que podem se tornar “mais produtivas” por meio da intervenção humana. A partir da historiografia e do referencial teórico-metodológico empregado, fundamentado na História Ambiental, observamos que esse tipo de representação está baseado na hiper valorização da técnica e da economia de mercado, e afeta de muitas maneiras a deliberação sobre como agir a respeito da natureza, de forma a incluí-la ou a retirá-la da história.
