Devido à escassa produção sobre essa área na América Latina,logo no Brasil, se percebe a necessidade desse estudo sobre a
especificidade da formação docente para o nível superior, no sentido de buscar contribuições na experiência cubana para a definição de políticas específicas, possibilitada pela participação no projeto acima indicado. Atualmente Cuba desenvolve um projeto de universalização da educação superior e oferece uma proposta de formação pedagógica garantida para todos os docentes da educação superior de todas as carreiras, fundamentada na articulação teoria/prática através da união entre estudo e trabalho. O trabalho procurou focar um estudo sobre A Especificidade da docência da Educação Superior no Brasil e em Cuba. Mostrou-se como a educação cubana desenvolve um projeto contínuo de avanço para garantir o direito à educação para todos desde 1959 e, que gradativamente conquistou o patamar atual.
