Muitos autores didáticos estudiosos do mundo machadiano continuam aceitando pacificamente as duas fases e os adjetivos realista, cético e pessimista como definidores do tom que acompanha a maior parte da obra do autor de Dom Casmurro. Discordamos, valendo-nos das conversas, ideias e discursos apresentados por cientistas, políticos, oradores de sobremesa e escritores ao longo da ficção machadiana - de Contos Fluminenses a Memorial de Aires. Há ali as mais diversas manifestações de uma “prosa hilariante”, distante da famigerada “prosa pessimista”. Cético, mas também desabusado, sim, como está lá no conto Teoria do Medalhão: a ironia e a chalaça, juntas. A atitude do escritor e as formas de apresentação dos meios expressivos fazem lembrar das palavras de Adso, do romance O nome da rosa, de Umberto Eco: Guilherme, ao contrário, ria só quando dizia coisas sérias, e se mantinha seriíssimo quando presumivelmente estava zombando.Downloads
