A FONÉTICA E A FONOLOGIA DE TRUBETZKOY À LUZ DO PENSAMENTO SAUSSURIANO

Propõe-se neste trabalho uma discussão acerca do pensamento de Saussure apresentado no Curso de Linguística Geral e a sua relação com os princípios por meio dos quais Trubetzkoy estabeleceu a distinção entre a Fonética, ciência dos sons da fala, e a Fonologia, ciência dos sons da língua, instituindo-as como disciplinas independentes. Busca-se evidenciar que o linguista genebrino apresenta princípios básicos para demarcar a fronteira entre essas ciências, embora não tenha sido seu objetivo fazê-lo. Dentre esses princípios estão a distinção entre o som material e o significante imaterial, o estabelecimento da dicotomia língua/fala e a teoria do valor. Por meio deles, pode-se compreender, por exemplo, a noção corrente de fonema, alofone e fone bem como a afirmação de Trubetzkoy de que a fonética investiga o que de fato se pronuncia ao falar uma língua, ou seja, os sons da fala, e a fonologia, o que se crê pronunciar, os sons da língua.
