Abstract

This paper reports on a field trip experience conducted by participants of the Pedagogical Residency Program with a 7th-grade class, focusing on Freinet Pedagogy. The activity aimed to explore Zoology, Ecology, and Environmental Education through a visit to the zoo, conducting a field trip at the end of the trimester in which these contents were addressed. Throughout the trimester, classes addressed groups of animals, emphasizing systematic concepts, ecological relationships, and socio-environmental issues. Subsequently, a guided field trip was conducted by a zoo technician, followed by post-visit discussions in the classroom. After the visit, students conducted research on the observed animals. The subsequent class presented the history of zoos and their relevance to Environmental Education, followed by discussions and the application of a questionnaire. The results indicated that the field trip contributed to contextualizing/consolidating and expanding the studied content, while also allowing for a break from anthropocentric perceptions, fostering a more critical outlook on the discussed topics.
