Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze the possibilities and limits of Law 14.922/2013, which establishes the State Policy of Cohabitation with the Semiarid. The said law establishes education as one of its guidelines. Therefore, we question how the issues of the semiarid integrate the pack of policies for education in Pernambuco, in a sustainability perspective. We use Discourse Analysis as methodological orientation, once it allows us to investigate the “practice of men”, which structures educational policies for the Semiarid. This interface (education/sustainability/human rights) about the semiarid region of Pernambuco brings forth the importance of guaranteeing an education that promotes the comprehension that the dry period is a natural and ecological phenomenon, and must thus be faced, disentangling it from the phenomenon of misery, which is primarily political.
