Abstract

The organization of crèches and pre-school child day care does not derive from only one concept of childcare. In those institutions we find some planned spaces, with large rooms, ventilated and illuminated, with furniture and equipments of adequate sizes, specially conceived for children, and also adapted spaces that were not built for that purpose. The environments built for children should take care of functions related to child development with the aim of promoting personal
identity and privacy, development of competences, and opportunities for growth with autonomy and liberty. The research conducted in the area indicates some criteria that may help the spatial organization in the institutions of child education, involving both the planning of internal and external areas.
