Abstract

This study analyzes the contribution of a non-formal teaching space in the municipal district of Restinga Sêca/Rio Grande do Sul. Starting from a case study, teachers and students were interviewed and observations were made in the locus of the research field. After a brief analysis of the historical background of how citizenship has been constituted in our society, marked by the exclusion of popular classes in the decision-making process, we review this concept in contemporary, in order to understand it in a wider sense and from a perspective of educational management. The investigation was characterized by ethnographical research of a qualitative nature, where participant insert, participant observation, field diaries and structured interviews were all used as research methods. From these data, analyses were made aiming to establish a relationship with the authors approached in the theoretical mark. In this sense an attempt was made to indicate some possibilities and deficiencies within this concrete study space, as well as highlighting the teachers’ pedagogic work, the students’ contribution, the management way and the relationships between this environment and other sectors of society. Finally some other worthwhile points were identified and a reflection was made about an management of better quality.
