Abstract

This article approaches the theme of cinema with a focus on aesthetic propositions and on the approximation of Walter Benjamin's thinking and Glauber Rocha's film production. The problem that constituted the central axis of the investigation was defined from the question: how to read Glauber Rocha in the light of Benjamin's aesthetic concepts? To analyze this problem, we adopted the procedures of bibliographic research, with emphasis on studies of works by Walter Benjamin “A obra de arte na era de sua reprodutibilidade” (1955) and “Origem do drama barroco alemão” (1984) and by Glauber Rocha “Uma Estética da Fome” (1965), “Revolução do Cinema Novo” (1980) that we chose as a theoretical reference. As objectives we propose to characterize some aesthetic foundations about cinema in Benjamin and Glauber Rocha and establish possible approximations regarding the aesthetic values related to cinema by these authors.
