Abstract

This article analyzes the discrimination and prejudices present in the sociability relationships of a group of elementary school students from a public school located in the city of Belem. The interdependent relationship society-school and school-society are addressed, because we understand that it is a two-way street, since when students bring their socially embedded representations through the media to the school site, they impact and modify the teaching and sociability relationships, whether by reiteration of values and stereotypies or creation of groups of such representations which, not infrequently, become prejudiced conflicting relationships in schools. The analyses render as major theoretical foundations the works of Todorov (2003); Guimarães (2004a; 2004b; 2008); Bourdieu (1992; 1997a; 1997b; 2003). Working pedagogical actions "rooted" for the pedagogical confrontation of the changing social structures stained by prejudiced practices is what is expected of the XXI century Brazilian school.
