Abstract

Initially, we can consider the reasons which led to the constitution of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology – IF’s – in 2008, when law 11.892 was passed. As research is one of the new attributions of those institutions, through investigation conducted in the Federal Institute of Education of Santa Catarina – IFSC, it is executed, as a second step, the analysis of what the purpose of the research is in this context. As a result, it is verified that the IF’s are created, at a large extent, from a tensioning of strengths among the interests of capital reproduction and the role of the state as an executor of such interests. As of the purpose of the research at IFSC, it is verified that the institution has participated in a dialogic process, historically constituted, of C&T production aiming at generating innovation with a strong link to the market interests. On the other hand, retrenchment of access to scientific and technology knowledge to a large number of workers is verified.
