Abstract

The study’s object of this work were the contents of Geopolitics from ten
Geography books used by Basic Education. The aim was to analyse the contents of five
collections listed to Elementary Education and five books used in High School.
Methodologically, we establish two categories for the examination, which indicate the
presence of the concepts of Political Geography and Geoppolitics in such works. The survey
results show a strong concentration of terminology and concepts related to Geopolitics when
compared to the frequency of terms related to Political Geography. So we can say that the
approach to Political Geography is little used in schools and this fact may be contributing to
increase the difficulty in knowledge’s construction in Geography students who attend basic
education.
